Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Adults
I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative. You are the expert in your own experiences, and my role is to help you understand what is happening, make sense of patterns that may be keeping difficulties going, and develop new ways of responding.
Therapy isn't about simply being told what to do. We will work together to identify goals that are meaningful to you, develop strategies that fit your life and regularly review your progress.
Types of therapy I offer
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is an evidence-based therapy that explores the connections between our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours. It can help you understand patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties and develop new ways of responding. CBT is practical and collaborative, and we will work together to identify strategies that you can apply in your everyday life.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT focuses on helping you develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts, physical feelings and emotions, rather than feeling controlled by them. It supports you to identify what matters most to you and take steps towards living a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Compassion-Focused Therapy
Many people experience high levels of self-criticism, shame, or feelings of not being “good enough”. Compassion-Focused Therapy helps develop a kinder and more balanced relationship with yourself, while building emotional resilience and self-compassion.
Trauma-focused CBT
Trauma-focused CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach that can help you process and make sense of experiences that continue to affect you. It can be helpful when you are experiencing symptoms such as intrusive memories, nightmares, avoidance, feeling constantly on edge, or changes in how you see yourself or the world following a traumatic experience. This therapy focuses on helping you understand how the trauma has affected you, gradually process difficult memories and beliefs, and develop new ways of responding so that the experience has less impact on your life. If we agree together that this therapy would be suitable for you, we will work together in a way that you feel supported and at a pace that suits you.
CBT for Long-Term Health Conditions
Living with a health condition or experiencing significant changes in your health can have a profound emotional impact. It may result in you adjusting to changes in your identity, relationships, daily activities, or future plans.
I offer support for people experiencing difficulties such as:
-
Adjusting to a diagnosis or change in health
-
Coping with uncertainty about the future
-
Managing the emotional impact of ongoing physical symptoms
-
Feelings of loss, frustration, or isolation
-
Rebuilding confidence and adapting to change
Which approach is right for me?
You don't need to decide which type of therapy you need before getting in touch.
During our initial conversations, we can discuss what you're experiencing, what you'd like to change and what approach is likely to be most helpful. In many cases, therapy may draw on ideas from more than one approach.
The most important thing is that we find a way of working that feels appropriate for you and your goals.
